YOUTH SPORTS

BASEBALL The Parks and Recreation Department offers T-Ball (Open to boys and girls age 5-6), Junior Pitching Machine (Open to boys and girls age 7-8), and Senior Pitching Machine (Open to boys and girls age 8-9). Signups begin approximately April 1. All games are played at Millennium Park. Signups begin approximately August 1 for fall baseball (ages 6-9). Cal Ripken Youth Baseball offers Major and Minor Leagues for ages 9-12. To register, a child must be 9 years old by May 1, and cannot be 13 years old on that date. Players can go directly to Minor League or they can try out for Major League (must be at least 10 years old to try out). First year players in this program must provide a copy of their birth certificate. Signups begin approximately Feb 15, and tryouts are in March. Anyone signing up after tryouts will be placed on a Minor League team. This league is held in the spring/summer only. Girls ages 7 and up are encouraged to sign up for the Girl's Softball Program. BASKETBALL The recreation league basketball program is open to youth age 5-17, with divisions grouped by school grade. The Kindergarten through 1st grade is a co-ed league, with grades 2-12 for boys only. Eighteen year olds cannot play in this league unless they are high school seniors. Signups begin in October, practices begin in November, and games begin the first week of January. Regular season games are played at local elementary school gyms. There are tournament games scheduled the first week in March. |

GIRL'S BASKETBALL The girl's basketball program consists of two leagues: the Junior league for girls in grades 2-4, and the Senior league for girls in grades 4-6. Those in grade 4 can choose in which league they want to play. Signups begin the first of October. |

GIRL'S SOFTBALL This league is for girls 7-15 yrs. old. Leagues are divided into a Junior Division (staff pitch) for ages 7-9, and a Senior Division (machine pitch) ages 10-12, and a Fast Pitch League for ages 13-15. Registration for the summer league begins approximately April 1, with play beginning in mid-June, and fall league registration begins approximately August 1. |

CHEERLEADING Youth cheerleading squads cheer for recreation league teams during the football and basketball seasons. Cheerleaders participate in a cheerleading competition at the end of the basketball season. The cheerleading program is open to youth in grades K-6. Registration times parallel the youth basketball and football programs. |

ROLLER HOCKEY The roller hockey league participates in inter-Recreation Department games as well as some out-of-town games and tournaments. Participants must furnish their own pads, helmet, stick, rollerblades, and mouthpiece. Signups for the winter season begin in September. |

YOUTH FOOTBALL The football program is open to all Danville and Boyle County youth in grades 3-6. Players are placed on teams based on the schools they attend and/or their school district. Signups begin approximately July 15, with the season running during September & October.
